Why Classroom Management?

Classroom managment is an overwhelming topic to explore for many because it is such a daunting task for anyone, let alone one who has never had the chance to experience the role of a teacher and the strategies involved with managing their own classroom. I for one began this education program with no idea of the many responsibilities of a single teacher, let alone the methods and organization put in place to help succeed. As teachers we hold the key to which our students acheivements are made possible. Through classroom managment, our responsibility is to provide a successful learning environment for all, and to help foster independent learning in our students. This is not so easy when you think of all the points to consider in doing so. Classroom management involves organization of the classroom and of the teacher themselves. It's about preparation, behavior management, as well as the philosophy of the teacher and how s/he reacts to certain situations or how s/he conducts a lesson. Classroom management is such a complicated matter because it entails so many different constructs; It's sheer abundance of information and varrying strategies that are available is what makes it so hard to encompass.
This topic is one that has plagued me since the beginning of this program and I feel as though I wont be fully prepared for what's out there when the time comes. I know I am not alone in this and I hope this blog will be used as a successful resource for both preservice and seasoned teachers alike to view ideas and suggestions through links, articles and various other information sources. I plan to use this blog to the best of my potential so that I may continue to add information and refer to it whenever I feel the need. Hopefully others will find it beneficial as a direct source to mounds of information about classroom management.

How well do you think University prepares you for classroom management in the real world?
